Girls’ Generation’s stylist, Seo Sookyung, is renowned for her talent, even winning the Style Award at the 2012 Gaon Awards. She took part in an interview with MK Fashion, talking about her life, style, and working with Girls’ Generation.

“It’s been exactly 10 years this year.”

She became a student under stylist Han Hyeyeon when she was barely in her 20s. She said she felt like crying, walking along the streets where her first photoshoot, which she shot carrying around a pack of clothes larger than herself, was plastered in Myeongdong. And after 10 years, she has become an “executive director”, with six assistants. Also, the celebrity she fastens buttons for with her own hands is Girls’ Generation.

“People usually work as an assistant for three to four years, or there are some who don’t go independent becoming an executive director, and become a team leader. Compared to others, I went independent really early. I was lucky.” The opportunity she had to go from a trainee to a stylist, making a full-fledged business card and making her name known, was while she worked on the advertising shoot for the makeup brand, “Etude”. At that time, the official model was being changed from Song Hyegyo to Go Ara, and that was when she got her chance. She showed off all the skills she learned through various brand advertisements to her heart’s content. Even after the model was changed to Park Shinye, she was in charge of the brand’s face for three years.

“Good things happened all at once. Jung Hyeyoung, who I was in charge of at the time, was becoming known as a charity angel, causing advertisements to burst in. And Shinhye’s management requested that I become an exclusive stylist, and I worked with them since ‘You’re Beautiful’.” Without measuring it with anything else, the seven years of time she spent only looking towards her job replied to her with the most valuable “Girls’ Generation”. After meeting the girls in 2011 through “The Boys”, she showed off her characteristic bright and happy-feeling styling skills, showing off a vintage, painting-like teaser, resulting in her receiving attention every day.

In particular, she also presented Girls’ Generation the “fashionista” look this year. She had the girls, who were the symbols of group outfits, wear vivid jerseys, denim, kitsch, custom jewelry, and other clothes that showed off their own, individual personalities freely. Each member was able to gain an image of a fashion icon. Sooyoung, Jessica, and Seohyun became models for a handbag brand and makeup brands, and their photos, which are released even when they aren’t promoting, gain interest every time.

Seo Sookyung1
Along with causing a great ripple effect with her existence alone, being in charge of Girls’ Generation’s clothes, the director’s sense of responsibility in the “fashion business” is also unique.

“Like how people think, ‘neutral colors are classy’, you have to throw away fixed ideas on fashion. There aren’t styles but trends, so the fashion market can’t grow in various directions. And so that’s why I intentionally have Girls’ Generation dress in bright, beautiful clothes. I think that they need to wear it because they are Girls’ Generation.”

To her high school teacher’s instructions of “Find something you do the best, and are fastest at”, she took in clothes that she reformed. The 10 years she lived, only facing forward. She worries because she still wants to do this work for a long time.

“About 12 times a day, I think about how I can do this work longer. (laugh) Because there wasn’t a single time when I was sick of this work.” Also, as she began to gain juniors while working, she started thinking a lot about the treatment of stylists. As feelings of responsibility to take care of her family began to emerge, her thoughts regarding fundamental problems got deeper.

Seo Sookyung2
“Unlike the West, our country’s entertainment industry doesn’t ‘find’ stars, but has a structure of ‘creating’ them, so expenses during this ‘creating’ process aren’t generated. If that celebrity becomes successful or ‘rises’, that is when earnings are generated. And so it doesn’t get calculated per piece. And so new stylists can’t earn money. Also, like how the majority of our country’s broadcasts are, the time to prepare outfits are unreasonably short. We always have to prepare several outfits in a week, causing us to stay up countless nights, sometimes resulting in many people quitting from exhaustion.” There are some people who quit in just one day after not being able to handle it physically. There are also times where she thinks of the other person, that they need to be able to do things alone as well, and nags. But they don’t realize her intentions and end up quitting, leaving her in an awkward position.

“Just like how there isn’t an easy job in the world, you need to start this work with thoughts of learning. This occupation is also a specialized job. The process of learning and studying on the scene is needed. But there are people who jump into this without any knowledge of these circumstances and are quick to quit after comparing it to friends who work in regular workspaces, so it breaks my heart. It’s not a system of increasing salaries as time goes by, and earning promotions, so I think people are uneasy about it.”

This is my favorite set of performance outfits because I really liked Yuri’s bowtie, and it’s the same outfits that they performed in at Hollywood Bowl when I first saw them perform in person.

Pink Items in Vogue This Year
POSTED IN Dresses, Love Rain, Rings, Seohyun, Translations and Articles, Yoona

There is a specific type of clothing being worn by stars in dramas that has been capturing the attention of viewers. Everybody has probably wondered, “What brand is that from?”, or “How much does that cost?” at one point. Moneytoday’s fashion-beauty site, “StyleM” tried to solve the questions on stars’ outfits.

Fashionistas often wore pink items in public during the first half of this year. The color pink makes one’s face look bright, and also creates a feminine feel, gaining much love from women. We looked for stars who wore items that ranged from neon-like hot pink colors to a more toned down nude pink.

This pink onepiece worn by singer/actress Yoona in the KBS drama “Love Rain” is from Luccacouture. This product can show off one’s legs with the unbalanced length of the front and back of the dress. The round collar is feminine and gives off a cheerful look. In the drama, Yoona matched it with a pink, striped cardigan, creating an innocent look. The dress is priced at 92,000 won.

On May 20th, Girls’ Generation – TTS member Seohyun, who is in charge of MCing MBC’s “Show Music Core”, showed off a Zsiska ring. The ring she wore is good to wear as an emphasis point of an outfit, with its bold, crystal decorations. Seohyun’s choice of the hot pink color added to her beauty. The price of this ring is 69,000 won.

Jessica: Who Wore it Better?
POSTED IN Jessica, Who Wore It Better

When people found out that Girls’ Generation’s Jessica and solo artist IU wore the same outfit in the past, it instantly became a hot topic.

In the photo, both are wearing the same one-piece dress.  However, both bring out a very different aura. Jessica on one hand appeals to a more sophisticated look with her long, wavy hair, whereas IU, who had her hair up in a bun while wearing a large headband, gave off a very cute feeling.

Jessica wore the dress when she appeared on SBS’s variety show “Running Man”, while IU wore it while she was the MC for the music program “Inkigayo”.

Netizens commented on the similar fashion by saying things like, “The feel of the dress is completely different when you compare Jessica and IU”, “Both of them are so pretty. I think both look good, no matter what they wear”, and “This dress is going to be completely sold out because of them.”

So, in your opinion, who wore it better, Jessica with her sophisticated charm, or IU with her cute “girl-next-door” charm?

What Is Girls’ Generation’s Glitter Makeup Beauty Secret?
POSTED IN Articles, SNSD, Translations and Articles

Girls’ Generation has finally made their comeback that we’ve been waiting and waiting for. They always fill expecations with different concepts with every comeback, and they did not disappoint this time either.

While Girls’ Generation has showed cute, girly images that stimulated oppa fans’ protective instincts, they returned with a luxurious, mature image that’s captured the world. They have taken off their girly image and are showing off their mysterious, sexy sides.

Where did their mature beauty transformation come from? Let’s take a look at their beauty secret.

▲Aesthetics of elegance, add posh with luxurious jewelry

Before their comeback stage, the girls showed off their femme fatale-like charms in their music video for “The Boys”. They gave off a vintage feel with their dress and bold jewelry, completing their goddess look by incorporating the color red in various parts.

Yoona, in particular, wore a tiara and a showy, luxurious necklace embedded with stones in the first scene of the music video. Sunny, who garnered attention with her short-cut hair, used a silver-toned, bold necklace and bracelet to add a feminine, sexy look alongside the present boyish look.

With her long hair, Tiffany wore earrings that drop down near her shoulder line, while Taeyeon had a showy, yet mysterious appeal with gold bracelets. Their jewelry styling also captured viewers’ eyes through their comeback stage.

By showing a style different from the past, members in the group captured the attention of viewers with the tiaras, bracelets, necklaces, and other items worn in their music video. Members who wore uniforms showed off their boyish charms, while adding a mysterious, luxurious, sexy beauty with the use of jewelry, showing a form of styling that sets them apart from other girl groups.

Jewelry designer Kim Jeongju of Mucha explained, “In their music video, Girls’ Generation matched jewelry that reminds one of medieval times, carrying bold, luxurious designs, at different parts (of their bodies), giving off fancy, femme fatale appeal. Their uniform style seen on stage, and other boyish styles like it, can also carry a feminine feel with the use of jewelry.”

▲Show off a mysterious, sexy beauty with gold glitter makeup

Another secret to Girls’ Generation’s transformation in goddesses is their generally pearly, glitter makeup! Their special makeup also added onto their glamourous, mature and mysterious appeal. With a generally strong, pearly, gold tone, they showed unity with the addition of makeup with a shade of orange. With their foundation and matte skin, they completed a porcelain-like look. With a slight touchup with a coral orange highlighter, there can be emphasis added for a feminine look.

Taeyeon, Tiffany, and Seohyun wore gold tone eye shadow around their underline. Using mascara on the eyelashes along their underline, they were able to show a mysterious look they hadn’t done before.

Sunny, Sooyoung, and Jessica wore gold colors, and gave emphasis with eyeliner. The strong pearl and eyeliner made the girls’ charismatic eyes stand out on stage.

Makeup salon blowblush’s Lee Kkotnim CD (director) stated, “If you want to wear a romantic, fall-like mood, yet mysterious look, focus on pearly, gold glitter makeup like Girls’ Generation. When applying gold colored eye shadow, use a gradient technique, by gradually getting a deeper color as you get closer to your (eye) line. To get eyes that seem deep, using gold glitter makeup is the best choice.”

Sooyoung, Yoona, and Seohyun’s Looks at Fashion Shows
POSTED IN Get This Look, Seohyun, Sooyoung, Translations and Articles, Yoona

Girls’ Generation, which has been getting lots of love from male fans, took off their stage outfits and gained attention for their feminine styles shown at fashion shows.

Along with their lovely faces and slim legs, Girls’ Generation has gained popularity through their stylish fashion. Not only do they have male fans, but members Yoona, Sooyoung, and Seohyun have become the icons amongst women in their twenties as their “wannabe styles”.

Are there even any men that don’t like their feminine looks that evokes loveliness? Let’s look into Girls’ Generation’s “know-hows” for capturing people’s attention both on and off stage.

Elegant Like Yoona

At a recent fashion event, Yoona showed an elegant look with a one-piece, capturing the eyes of many. Her black one-piece looked like it was a two-piece with the added khaki-colored tube top. With the added colored top, it made what could have been a boring, black dress a feminine look that suits the fall season.

Recently, various two-piece-like one-piece dresses have been released. White or black monotone skirts, that give a clean-cut feel, matched with beige or khaki-colored tops are perfect for creating an elegant style like Yoona’s.

Chic Like Sooyoung

Sooyoung wore a pastel-toned khaki one piece, which looked as if she was wearing a vest upon first glance. If a dark khaki color expresses a vintage mood, a pastel color gives off a more chic and softer image.

How about showing off a trendy style with pastel-toned khaki fashion items like her this fall? When picking out a new trench coat or vest, which are popular fall items every year, pick pastel khaki-colored ones. If layered with regular monotone fashions, it will give a more chic, polished feel.

As Girls’ Generation’s youngest member, Seohyun usually wears lovely, romantic looks compared to others in the group. If you pay close attention to Seohyun’s fashion, you could say that all the romantic details, frills, ribbons, lace, and polka dots, are present.

The main thing about wearing Seohyun’s romantic-detailed fashion is to go completely simple in black and white to express the feminine look.

A member of women’s shopping mall, Cherry Koko, stated, “To show off the same feminine look as Girls’ Generation, it’s important to find each of their styling points. If you want to show an elegant feminine look, you have to choose items that are simple in both color and design. Pastel-toned khaki outers are good for a chic look to go along with the fall season. Also, to express a romantic mood, it is best to use lovely details and patterns to ones advantage.”
